weeelll to be fair, TTGL wasn't really about that sentiment as much as people like to quote it; when Kamina was dying he revised his motto, though not like it did Simon much good in the short term. Kamina is just much more bombastic about it than basically anyone ever. XD In a lot of ways, TTGL is a deconstruction of shounen--like, YEAH the indomitable human spirit can save the universe!! but that doesn't mean bad things aren't going to happen--you may lose the people you love in the process, and they WON'T conveniently come back to life.
In some ways, Stellvia is more purely shounen in theme than TTGL even though people sort of write it off as shoujo. It's all about WORKING TOGETHER to SAVE THE UNIVERSE! But since it's in a school setting, and all the MAIN main characters are female, it's much more charming and cute~ More focused on the relationships between the characters than the saving the world part though, so the shoujo aspect is really very strong. KALEIDO STAR THOUGH. Shounen through and through! Except sparkly!
dude I have not watched any anime in FOREVER what's wrong with me!! I'm like playing browser games and beta-ing peoples' fanfics!
*LOL* At least you can still claim some sort of fandom productivity. XDDD And it's not like there's really been any anime worth watching coming out lately, either. Rewatching Stellvia is one of the first things that I've watched (anime-related, anyways) in a long while. *has not written fic in months* I'm just being self-indulgent right now, because I spent ten days basically living in the library *after* finals were over for the stupid first-year writing competition, and classic anime was a really relaxing, happy thing for me. *♥ at you for introducing me to Stellvia*
I SHOULDN'T be doing fandom stuff and yet I do it anyway!! orz Durarara is still pretty enjoyable, but besides that? Nothing much. Though I have actually been writing?? I even opened up the Kenshin outline to see what I could do with it! I concluded I'd need to rewatch the Kyoto arc before I could do it, but man, even doing that much is more than I've had the heart to do in AGES.
