So. New Prince of Tennis Manga~~~!!! ♥
I'm actually really excited about this. The ending was somehow unsatisfactory, even if it was kinda the natural conclusion of the original series. So sequel! With shiny new plot (one can hope). But but CHARACTERS~~!!! ♥ Looks like most of my faves without the characters I thought were more forgettable. So Yay~~!!
Looks good so far, though Konomi makes me a bit sad - I had much greater faith in his abilities to describe New York than he deserved, apparently. XD Gah, continuity in location gaps~~~. Because no trains run from Grand Central to the airports. Come to think of it, getting to the airport by train is nigh on impossible. Also? I once saw a kid doing a handstand on only one hand while playing a harmonica and clapping his feet in rhythm along with it, and everyone walked right on by. Ryoma and his sliding into the train trick ~ not cool. This is New York - we are not impressed. (Okay, harmonica kid was impressive. Note that I still remember him six months later. Point stands.) Kid holding up a train with his tennis racquet would get glared at, not applauded. XD
This makes me reconsider whether Ryoma's childhood would have been in New York. It's possible, after all, that Konomi simply didn't know that there are no orange trees here. (Apple orchards, yes. Pumpkin patches, yes. Vineyards, yes. Orange groves? nonono.) The oranges have always made me think that he'd lived in California as a kid, because oranges = CA or FL, and Asian heritage makes Cali more likely. But for tennis, the bigger events are New York, for sure. I've mentioned this to
readerofasaph before, but I'm pretty sure that if the Echizen family lived in NY, I think they'd either have lived in Forest Hills or Flushing, because they're the most tennis oriented parts of the city. True facts, the US Open used to be called Forest Hills like Wimbledon is... well... Wimbledon. Then they moved it to Flushing, and, well, obvi. XDDD I'm rather fond of Forest Hills because you can live across the street from the tennis club there, unliked Flushing where it's a trek, and 'cause I see the tennis courts in Forest Hills from the train every day, but that's just me. XDD
But in any event, it makes no sense for Ryoma to be leaving from Grand Central because there isn't really a lot of housing there. Is he supposed to live in what, Tudor City? Not to diss Tudor City (my sister and my aunt live there, I think I'd get stomped if I tried), but, y'know, it's not exactly convenient to any tennis courts that I'm aware of, and I just can't picture the Echizens not being near a tennis court. Which I think means that Rinko must work in that neck of the woods (maybe at the Chrysler Building, since we get such a clear shot of it?). Y'know, dropped by his mom's office to say goodbye before heading back to Japan kind of a deal. Could've been cute!
...Now I kind of want fic of this. Crap. *throws bunny on the pile*
