I really almost thought that Prince of Tennis couldn't get any stranger. However... the preview for episode 11 of the OVA? They're apparently denying anime canon to use manga canon and tell that story about Tezuka in Kyuushu. ... what the heck? O_o I'm kinda curious, in an oh-my-god-that's-going-to-be-a-trainwreck sort of way. ^^;;;;

In other news, I'm three pages short of done on one of my papers and have run out of material. I'm so fucked. *_*

Also, I need to stop using "artes" instead of "arts." Clearly, too much Abyss for me.

It's about intellectual property, so you might know more about it than you thought. Basically, I'm arguing that they need to repeal laws that preclude people from inventing new technologies that could theoretically circumvent encryption software used by the recording and film industry. (God, it looks like such a mouthful, but I swear it's not that difficult.) Ummm... science and technology versus the arts, in a nutshell? I'm not sure what else I can say - I just added a full page of complete bull hypothetical political strategies for how you would turn it into law. ^^;;;;;;;

I had to read that a couple of times to understand it, but I finally got it!! Sounds interesting. I wish I had something to say on the topic besides 'let scientists do their thing dammit!!' And then have an ethics committee or something. That being my general feeling. For the specific topic, it's still going to happen underground anyway...that's how technology is, at least, since R&D isn't as ridiculously expensive as it would be in other scientific fields. This being the opinion of a completely uninformed and biased science-oriented person. XD

why isn't there more Jade fic in the fandom?!! D= I love everyone of course so I'm happy with what I can get, but more Jade please!! And more gen too but I'm happier with the amount of gen I find than I thought I'd be. XD

And I dunno ~ Jade seems to get a pretty decent amount of love to me... but then, the fandom's so tiny that really? Everyone needs more love. XDDD There also is a fairly high percentage of gen. I'll admit, the AschxLuke took me by surprise (it shouldn't have, I know, realistically I've been in fandoms for how long?), but there's a decent amount of it. There are actually two long gen fics to follow, which is more than I can say for FFVII! XDD

Mostly I've seen a lot of Asch and Luke and Guy focus with Jade there to be his snarky self, but I actually have no problem with that so I should just shut up. XD So I guess the sentiment should REALLY be MORE FICS PLEASE. It seems like one of those word-of-mouth fandoms where people trickle in. That's what happened to me after all... So maybe it will grow~ And! Two long gen fics!? Tell me!!!!! I've only encountered one so far (meimi's Nezach) and I loved it to bits, so I'd be really happy with another. I'm so psyched to be in a fandom with gen. *_* Though, the pairings stuff isn't obnoxious either, so I don't mind it that much. At least it doesn't drown out everything else, unlike some (many?) other fandoms.

...what. Abyss then has more long gen fics than FF7. That is so perverse I just don't know what to say. Maybe it's because Abyss' cast was like an awesomely retarded family and so people want more of them interacting, period? Even though there was so much of it in the game, there still wasn't enough for me. XD The FF7 cast never really had that...

I think half the reason the pairings stuff isn't so obnoxious is A) because there's also a decent amount of gen and B) because for the most part, people stick to canon pairings (Luke/Tear FTW) or other pairings that seem reasonably realistic. I'm going to cry when someone finally writes the Arietta the Wild / Peony or the Van / Anise or the Tear / Legretta fics that are almost inevitable. Because OMG THEIR LOVE IS SOOOO THERE! ... Kill me if we get there, please. I don't want to know.

Meimi's fic is one of the two I was thinking of. The other is Phasis, which is actually Luke/Tear now that I'm looking at it, but so lightly that it might as well be gen.

Could be. I mean, we never really saw the FF7 characters interacting outside of what was necessary for the plot - so they sort of seem more like a team then friends - easily resolvable into parts. I could also be wrong. FF7 scared me off reading fics because the pairing insanity just destroyed my brain. All the really good stuff was Seph/Cloud or Cloud/Zack or something like that though, y'know? And I suppose if you count my own fic in addition to Linn's, then there are two long gen FF7 fics. But I don't count my stuff on principal, because I don't get to be just a consumer with it. ^^;;;

In other news, I finally wrote Tidus/Yuna fic and would love to know what you think. ^.^;;;;

Also, paper #1 ETA: I could probably stop, since it's a 10 - 15 page paper and I've got 10 pages, but I'm almost at 11 so I might push my luck. Who knew I could come up with this many excuses for what I want? Hopefully he's grading based on creativity. ^^;;;;;

Realistic pairings can win me over in no time. Especially since, as you say, there's gen and more story-focused fics to drown that out... I guess I don't necessarily need gen, just story > the romance. That's why I don't read romance novels, after all. (That, and I accidentally checked one out of the library when I was an impressionable young elementary school student and I was scarred for life. Must be why I'm such a prude today. XD;;;)

I will read Phasis when I think I deserve a break, but yay thank you~~ ♥ I didn't have the patience to look through the Abyss stuff on FFN and missed it so thank you so much for pointing it out to me~~~ And the game was a little Luke/Tear anyway so it's fine with me. I actually would be pretty happy with finding some pairing-focused fic for them, or Asch/Natalia, or Anise/Ion. Het is probably as hard to find as gen anyhow. XD; Though I found that I rather like a number of the couples fandom seems to love, so I guess it's ok in the end! Guess I don't have an OTP here. XD Just, more fics please! ♥

Yeah, FF7, a number of pairing fics that were good, but a lot more craziness than I could deal with. I think larger fandoms just aren't my cup of tea. And suck, not getting to be a consumer of your fic!! It sounds so depressing if you put it that way! D= Need more gen fic!!! Or at least more story > pairing fics? Dunno, I am so not a part of that fandom XD;;;

Ditto - Actually, I find that so long as a story is well-written, I can believe even a crack pairing. Admittedly, you have to work freaking *hard* to make a crack pairing look decent, but it can be done. I agree, with stories where there's a romance, the important characteristic that takes a fic from being trash to being good tends to be story >> romance. I'll admit, I like a good trashy romance novel once in a while, but that's the sort of thing that you *really* need to be in the right mood for, or it's just... crappy. ^^;;;

I think you'll like Phasis if only for Jade. Because Jade in it is love. But then again, I should probably warn you that it's at a bit of... cliff? at the moment. Now, admittedly, I welcome the idea of someone else freaking about what's about to happen and someone to share theories with, but if you're looking to get work done, the current end point might be a little distracting. ^^;;;

Most of the Abyss stuff on FFN is actually really good. I've only seen one Mary Sue, one high school AU, and one "I'm going to retell the game as a story" attempt so far - which is not bad, as things go. Actually, it occurs to me that I should dig for the AMAZING Jade fic that I read, because that was on FFN. It was Nephry and Jade post-Akzeriuth, and I just loved it. FFN actually has a pretty high concentration of Jade... maybe that's why I'm thinking the fandom has plenty of him? Hmmm... I also agree - it's hard to pick an OTP, as much as I do love Luke/Tear. Even the Asch/Luke - once I got over the O_o aspect of it - has such an intriguing dynamic that I find it hard to say no. The only thing I'm really bothered by is the high density of Guy/Natalia fic. Because really? I have difficulty picturing Guy with anyone, and Natalia is somewhat obsessed with Luke/Asch. I would *love* to see some Ion/Anise fic, though.

And I think you should caveat your claim about het being as hard to find as gen ~ the truth is closer to good het being as hard to find as gen. You can find het - it just tends to have Mary Sues, or be set in high schools, or be completely freaking awful and painful to read. FF7 is also just cracktackular in general. The sheer variety of pairngs - OT4s, OT7s OT3s - which, might I add, are exceeded in volume only by the Prince of Tennis fandom and second to none in RANDOM - is ridiculous.

And I saw. ♥ I would *love* to see FFX art, too~!!! Hmm... I haven't read much FFX fic yet, mainly because I don't know anyone else who really writes it and I still haven't finished the game. I do recommend that you check through the recent het_challenge posts, though, because I know we had a bunch of people writing Tidus/Yuna and I remember reading at least one that was good and not depressing.

That's such a rare thing for any fandom I tried in the past. @_@ I'm happy to see that author whose story you recced me has a bunch more Abyss oneshots, so that'll be a happy afternoon of reading for me~ Yeah, no OTP here! All the characters have such great dynamics with each other. And yeah, I totally agree, Guy/Natalia is the only one I've seen so far I just can't get into. Though I don't really like Jade/Dist stuff too, now that I think of it.

...good point. Good het is as hard to find as gen. I automatically skip over stuff with Mary Sues or high school etc. so I never seem to count them. And FF7 and PoT pairing stuff is CRAZY. Please never do that Abyss fandom. ;__; Usually the fandom needs to get pretty big before it gets like that at least. Princess Tutu fandom has stayed small and has reasonable pairing stuff. Still can't find much I feel like reading in it though. XD;;

I'll check the FFX stuff out~ I haven't looked very hard, but I remember anything good I found was oneshot and usually sad. My quick scan of FFX-2 fic did not raise my spirits. I just want a happy end for them at the end of it all, it's not much to ask! Preferably with a plot. XD; I'm just too demanding.

Ahh... the only depressing thing is that Griffinkhan is one of a very small number of Abyss writers on FFN. Meimi cross-posts all her stuff, and between the two of them, I think they make up half the fandom or so. ^^;;; I agree - I'm not a huge Jade/Dist fan, either, but at least with that pairing I can sort of kind of see where they're coming from. The Guy/Natalia is what kills me.

And true! about Tutu still being sane. Of course, the flip side is that Tutu has next to nothing, and rarely anything worth the read. ^^;;; Ditto for FFX from what little I've read, but maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

I guess you have to take the batshit with the good, huh? ;_; No way to win in fandom~ Someday I want to see if there's some bell-shaped curve when it comes to good vs. bad fics and if size of fandom really does correlate with more bad fic and good fic. Aaand if a small sample size also follows the bell-shaped curve or skews the results one direction or the other. At what sample size would it start following the bell-shaped curve? Could we determine a optimal fandom size where you get a good amount of good fics with a reasonable amount of crazy?

I think I'm going to stab myself now for typing that.

Argh everytime Jade is all honest or refers to himself as a monster it just really gets to me (when he said he wished he could kill himself as a newborn in the game I was pretty distressed, to put it lightly) and the fic evoked that and then had me smiling at the end.
