Well, I finally got around to reading the Hikaru no Go manga (finally because I've had it in my possession since September), and I have to say, I'm somewhat disappointed. Not that the manga wasn't good, because it was, but...

See, here's the thing: the ending sucked. Lisa was telling me that it ended the way it did because of some issues with the publishing company or something like that. I can understand and appreciate that... but that doesn't stop me from thinking that the ending sucked. It was terribly incomplete, it left hundreds of plot threads dangling all over the place... of course that means that the door is open for great fanfiction about it, but mainly I'm just annoyed at the conclusion. I also really don't care for the end of Hikaru's final match. I mean, yes, it's nice not to play into the cliche of the hero always triumphing, I agree. However, in battles of honor like Hikaru's fight for Sai, I can't help but think that something's gone wrong if the protagonist loses. Yes, the Korean kid didn't mean it the way it sounded and it was all a problem of misinterpretation, but that doesn't make it less about honor from Hikaru's perspective, and it pisses me off that he would be allowed to lose when that was on the line.

... so yes, much annoyance.

That babbled out, the early parts of the manga were quite enjoyable. I had a great time reading it... I just wish it had been longer. ;_;
