Well, until I can bug [livejournal.com profile] ladylore for a title, I suppose this story will have to go without. Only thing I'm saying is - DAMMIT, this was supposed to be fluffy!!!

As Ichiro Masuta entered the library early that bright Sunday morning, a complete lack of surprise struck him at the sight before him. At the table, pouring over one of the latest alchemical tomes, sat one Edward Elric. Distractedly, the blond brushed a lock of hair back behind his ear, scrawling something on a nearby sheet of paper before shaking his head and striking whatever it had been.

Ichiro paused in the doorway, staring at one his lovers, enjoying the sight of Ed at work. While not a rare vision, it nevertheless gratified Ichiro to observe Ed as he was only at those times when a book had caught and held his attention. The blond’s expressive face shifted every few seconds as he turned over a phrase, sometimes nodding and others looking like he’d enjoy seeing the author if only so that he could smack whoever had written such complete stupidity.

Slowly, the dark haired man crept forward, careful not to make any large amount of noise. Ed focused inordinately well, so Ichiro doubted that anything less than screaming would manage to distract him. It never had before, at any rate.

“What are you reading?” He asked, leaning down to wrap his arms around the other man’s neck. Ed started, then leaned back with a sigh. When he turned his head upwards, Ichiro brushed his lips with a feather light kiss. Golden eyes stared up at him as he drew backwards a bit, walking around the table to sit at his lover’s side. They blinked distractedly, before clearing at last.

“Just an alchemy text. Nothing interesting.” Ed replied. His eyes dropped swiftly, strangely away from Ichiro’s gaze. The Japanese man regarded him for a moment, then grabbed the book and turned it towards himself.

“The Gate Treatise: How Alchemy Works.” He read as he glanced at the title. Ed still wasn’t looking at him. The blond had focused on a point Ichiro couldn’t quite see somewhere within himself. Ichiro thumbed through the book, studying a few pages. Alchemy still escaped him for the most part, but bits and pieces of this were making sense. Human transmutation… going to the other side…

Ichiro looked sharply at Ed… who still turned away.

“Mr. Elric… why…?” Ichiro began. What did this mean? Didn’t Ed know? Did he want his companion to leave now, when happiness finally seemed to be found? What could he have been - ?

“I…” Ed started, then took a deep breath, before finally meeting Ichiro’s eyes. The Japanese man couldn’t quite cover a wince at the emptiness lurking in the depths of those golden orbs. Ed’s vociferous nature covered the real issues in his life far too well, sometimes. “I… promised you…”

Now that settled it.

Ichiro tossed the book aside, and grabbed the other man firmly. Swiftly, he pulled the younger man close, and kissed him with all the fervor and passion he had within him. His hands tangled in long strands of blond hair, crushing his lover’s mouth forcefully against his own. Initially Ed tried to resist, but Ichiro refused to let him go, instead drawing him closer still as the older man’s other arm snaked around the blond’s back and pulled him onto his lover’s lap.

When they finally broke apart, the two sat there for a moment, each trying desperately to catch their breath. Ed started to speak, but Ichiro quickly pressed a finger over his lips and shook his head. Ed continued to try, and Ichiro kissed him quickly again. At last, the blond sat still, the older man’s hand resting gently upon his cheek as he stared into warm dark eyes.

“While I appreciate the offer, Mr. Elric,” Ichiro began, staring intently at the one before him, “I respectfully decline.”

“But… – You… – I thought…” The younger man tried to speak once more, only to be silenced again by a thumb covering his lips.

“After all,” Ichiro said, “someone has to make sure the cats don’t get left in the cold.”

Ed stared at him for a moment, then burst into peals of laughter.

~* Angst-ish After-part, cause it wouldn’t leave me along *~

For several minutes they simply sat there, Ed burrowing his head deeply into Ichiro’s chest. The strong heartbeat beneath his ear comforted him as much as the warm arms wrapped tightly around him. He closed his eyes, enjoying the pressure of Ichiro’s chin atop his head and the sensation of a strong hand running gently through his hair.

When Ichiro moved, Ed wasn’t quite prepared for it. His surprise gave the older man the advantage, and before he knew it, Ed found himself being carried bridal style across the library. He sighed in acceptance leaning into his lover’s chest. Then, a thought struck him, and he hurriedly moved to dislodge himself.

“What’s wrong, Ed?” Ichiro asked, containing the blond’s nearly frantic attempts to free himself.

“The book!” Ed replied. Ichiro started to shake his head, and would have contested its importance, except Ed managed by flailing to cut him off. “You don’t understand! Al doesn’t know –“

“Doesn’t know what, Mr. Elric?” Ichiro said. The younger man stilled and looked at him expressively, gold eyes wide and open. Reluctantly, Ichiro place him upon the floor.

Ed bolted across the floor to where the book had fallen. He gathered it gingerly in his arms, looking at it for a moment at arm’s length before drawing it close to himself. Ichiro walked over to him, and, with a sigh, the blond allowed to draw the book away.

A glance at the cover revealed all he needed to know.

“Ed, how did you -?”

“It took me a while to find it. Damned expensive, too, but worth it.” Ed replied. Then he took the book from his unresisting lover and placed it carefully upon the shelf. He and Ichiro left the room together, more subdued but still very much content.

In the library behind them, the morning light caused the gold lettering on a book’s spine to glisten…

Hohenhiem.

Wow, that was quite well done. Amazing! I love it. :) The part with Masuta watching Ed study in particular. The last scene was very good as well. Though angsty... but I love angst, you know. :D

Strangely enough, I had been thinking of asking the comm if someone would do something like this... Eeerie.

Is this pre-fivesome?
