Something New

Learned something new and fairly interesting tonight. I'm not sure what exactly I want to do with it yet, but I feel like it's worth keeping around.

Four Cardinal Virtues: Prudence, Temperance, Fortitude, Justice
Three Theological Virtues: Faith, Hope, Love
Seven Contrary Virtues: Humility, Kindness, Abstinence, Chastity, Patience, Generosity, Diligence

In the original listing of "deadly sins", as written by John Cassian, there were - disturbingly enough, oh god I can see the Sues coming - actually *EIGHT* sins:

Gluttony, Avarice, Fornication, Anger, Dejection, Sloth, Vainglory, and Pride.

Then along came Gregory the Great, who wrote up the common list of seven used today:

Gluttony, Avarice, Lust, Anger, Sloth, Envy, Pride.

I'm gonna run with the idea that Lust and Fornication meant about the same things to the people who called them by different names, ne? That leaves us with Dejection and Vainglory somehow morphing into Envy. I wonder about the possibilities, though, of simply saying Vainglory is akin to Envy, and Dejection is it's own sin still... ::ponderponder::

And something old that I may want to play with as well:

"Faith, hope, and love - these three remain; but the greatest of these is love."

So yes - I don't really know where I'm going with this, aside from saying that About.com is love, and that I may do something with this at some point.

In the mean time, Suethors will continue to be shot. Yes. XD

Actually, Vainglory was merged with Pride, and Dejection was just dropped. Envy was added entirely by Gregory.
