Tales of the Abyss
So I just finished my first playthrough of Tales of the Abyss...
ZOMG!!! AAAAAHHH!!!!!!
So, I seriously can't decide if I love it or I hate it. The last time I cried this hard was when I watched the last episode of Fruits Basket for the first time - and I was a sobbing, incoherent ball after that. It was just...
Okay, so first, the fake-out where you thought it was done - super cool.
Tear getting sick. ;_; And Tear getting better. (Ion... ;_;)
And Luke~!!! Luke with the vanishing thing and the huh and the hah and the WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!?!?! And just... ow. Ow, I guess. That part nearly killed me.
ALTHOUGH, that part didn't nearly kill me half as bad as the part in Daath, when Luke was trying to decide whether or not to go through with the whole thing at the Tower of Rem. And just... Guy, and Jade, and TEAR! *_* And, okay, I'll admit it, against my will I was convinced to like Anise and Natalia somewhere along the way.
And ASHE~!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! SO NOT COOL!!!!!!!!! I totally died at the part where he... you know... died. ;_;
I'll admit, I spent half of this game sitting here going, this completely breaks my heart. Why am I still playing, this is breaking my heart... Oh god, this hurts so badly, why the hell am I still playing this goddamn game????
BUT that's a sign of just how good the characterization was. And the parts where my heart wasn't lying shattered on the floor, I was laughing, and amused, and just squeeing over how cute they all were. Which is probably why I wound up bawling as much as I did at the end, when everything just started to come down.
... and they totally got me. I completely, absolutely fell for their last fake out. The one in the middle, I had warning about, so it wasn't so bad... but the one at the end? Completely got me. The thing before the credits got me first. I was about to be so pissed, because seriously? "You've done well," right as Luke DIES is about the worst line it could have ended on. I think I might have hated that game if it had stopped there. And then, after the credits, I'd hoped for a split second that they might have said Tear and Guy should have gone because Luke was there, but after that I totally thought they were sticking to their guns on the whole being dead thing - *especially* because they've been so good about being realistic throughout. And then he was there, and I was crying twice as hard, and it was just... beautiful. I just... wow. *_* That was awesome.
And there were other parts that I was in love with, too. And Jade is still my darling. I think on my next playthrough I'm going to create a list of really great Jade lines, including but not limited to, "My, it's annoying to have so many suicidal people around." Because Jade~!!! *_* And I think he finally understood there, at the end, what it meant for someone to die, which made me REALLY happy. The whole... well, anything Jade makes me happy, really. ^^;;; Guy, too. Especially the part where he comes right out and hits Luke for being an idiot. Because Luke needed it, and I appreciated that. ^.^;;;
Man... now I kinda want to start playing it again. ^^;;; With a walkthrough this time, to make sure I get everything. ^.^;;;;; But that was seriously freaking awesome. ^________^
